Yes, we have mudslides, floods, and earthquakes. But it sure is gorgeous when the sun comes out. Yesterday, we went to the beach under clear blue skies. Then we took our scooters the long way home along the coastline, up over Diamond Head and through the well-groomed neighborhoods (palm trees, plumeria) on the other side. Turning away from the ocean, we could see the sun hitting the bright green tops of the mountains. They are almost fluorescent now that the rains have started back up. And I still find these mountains to be like some alien landscape, so startlingly different from any mountains I'd seen before coming here.Anyway, I guess my main point here is that this is the kind of place where you regularly open your eyes wide and go oooo....ahhhh.....
Not bad.

We do that here in Fargo a lot too. Oh wait, it is a cool city, but not a breathtaking landscape - sigh. The best part about those mountains you describe is you can hike them in bare feet (no snakes and no poison ivy). Or is it that you have a view of the ocean from them?
