Theater: Naupaka

Another cultural activity I was included in this weekend was the world premiere of the three act ballet-opera Naupaka, A Hawaiian Love Story. This had all different kinds of dance including hula, Tahitian, modern, and ballet. And really outstanding singing. Our friend Richard knew the ballet dancer Kamakoa Page, who plays the female role of the doomed couple, from his Bikram yoga class. So a bunch of us went along to the performance. It was about three hours long and, while we all enjoyed the performance, we required pizza and beer afterward. (All that dancing made us hungry and thirsty.)

There's an interesting article here with video from a rehearsal.

B was off getting his own kind of culture (watching plays at his conference in D.C.).
