A boy's mother is killed suddenly and a woman who writes letters at Central Station in Rio takes him under her wing (eventually) and journeys with him in search of his father.
Great movie. Brazilian, Central do Brasil. 1998. It was nominated for the 1999 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and for Fernanda Montenegro for Best Actress in a Leading Role. I guess we'd better watch La vita รจ bella, the film that beat this one out--it must be amazing.
Warning: I cried so hard I still was all puffy when I woke up the next morning.
