I got up in the wee hours of the morning to be at my local public radio station to man the phones for the pledge drive. Rode the moped through the rain to get there by 5:45 AM for the first shift.
It was kind of fun. It was a group of us from the Center -- many of them students, which is great. (This photo is actually the group from a previous year, but I was sitting right where the woman in the black t-shirt was.) I'm only a low level member, myself, so I figured it would make up for that a little. Although I only rarely listen to Hawaii Public Radio, I feel that my general consumption of public radio programming is quite high -- I get my news from the NPR website and I listen to loads of podcasts. This helps soothe my guilt. (Yup, that whole trip works on me.)I heard the radio personality say that only one in ten listeners is a member. Is that possible? Could this be true?
I also just visited my public (although "public" in a completely different way) library. B has just left for a conference in Puebla so I picked up a little fiction to keep me company...
