I found a vintage haori (a hip- or thigh-length kimono coat) last week that insisted on coming home with me. I blame the nefarious influence of my boss, who lured me to the international bazaar at the Academy of the Arts, and is crazy about gorgeous textiles, but also has a good eye for value. So I feel pretty confident about my purchase under her mentoring. And it was further validated by the ooo's and ahh's of the other ladies waiting in line.
Now I just have to get over being afraid to wear it out of the house. It can't get wet! (Although I think I might sleep in it, it feels sooo nice....)
The image is a close-up of the silk -- it's a fabulous mix of traditional and this totally modern swirly thing. It doesn't do justice to the color, which is a subtle grey-green-blue. (Click on image to view larger.)

If she hadn't bought it, I would have. It's an excellent piece!
